Neil: The dice has rolled to me to make the last entry of our trip
Before I get all whimsical a few statistics and thanks
Statistics:

Approx 1300 Kms from Donaueschingen to Budapest
Countless bridges
7 ferries
22 days cycling
4 rest days ( Passau and Vienna)
3 more to come here in Budapest
Visited 4 capitals, Paris , Vienna, Bratislava and Budapest
3 punctures
One morning of drizzle
4 swims in the Danube
Never got lost ….well not for long
Glad to finish? More later

Thanks:

Well who would that be I wonder?
I think I am Don Quixote and Ceri is Sancho Panza
She ….books all the places to stay , then writes the reviews
Carries all the heavy luggage
Never complains
Handles all the money
Speaks German!
Maintains the blog
Uses her Quad lock and so navigates into cities
Always smiles and chats to all and sundry
I could not do this without her
I love her to bits

Whimsy:
The Danube has been our constant companion for a month now . We sometimes cycle away from it but always comes back to us . It started as a small stream and now is huge . It is the backbone of our journey.
I am reminded of Robert Macfarlane’s book “ Is a river alive “
Well yes I think probably it is . The river goes on of course to Belgrade and the Black Sea . Not very much fun to cycle apparently

Now we have to get home !
We will take the train to Munich in 3 days stay there two nights and work out how to get home to Portsmouth

I didn’t answer the question .Am I glad to finish ?
Well yes and no
Ceri and I both agreed this morning we would quite happily carry on. It’s that lovely routine to Cycle . Eat. Sleep and repeat, that makes it all work
Meeting lots and lots of new people and visiting so many beautiful places is part of it too
Ceri and I are so lucky to have good health both physical and mental .
Enough enough! I hear you say

Ceri: We have had a fantastic final day of cycling. If you ever come to Budapest, consider a day cycling to Szentendrei.

Neil’s kind comments above made me very emotional. He’s a wonderful companion in every way. May we have many many more adventures together.
