September 4th: Neuburg to Vohburg

NEXT

Ceri: Confession! I was really tired today. Even Neil conceded he was a little tired. Yesterday we were both so determined to cycle 50 miles with hills, and no complaints at all, but it became tough towards the end. Beautiful views come with weary legs.

And even though it’s not been too hot until today, and drinking plenty of water, cycling still comes with dehydration and its side effects. So this morning at breakfast Doc suggested caffeine. It was an answer I whole heartedly embraced with 3 delicious espressos! Success!! Tomorrow I’ll be asking him about sleep deprivation!

This was our view as we cycled away from Neuburg this morning
The Danube is low exposing sand banks
They do love their flowers
Lunch time picnic
Sometimes a wrong turn takes us down pretty cycle paths

Cycling past power plants, the Danube was full. Until we came across an enormous hydroelectric dam after which the river level fell at least 10-15m and we could see why the river cruisers are unable to sail.

Not my photo as I forgot to take one

The temperature today has been 30deg, so it’s just as well we chose to ride just 25miles. On the south side of the river grew tall trees along the path providing us with very welcome the shade. We finished our easy day in the pretty town of Vohburg where we relaxed late afternoon and enjoyed supper at a cafe/restaurant next to the cooling river. Perfect.
