Ceri: When we set out in the morning, we always assume it’s going to be straightforward, and that’s when things start going wrong…. but they end up being the best part.

The bin men arrived in our alley and had to carry/rattle bins from the top to the road at the bottom of our alley, then return each bin to the top again. Fit guys! Noisy too! 6am!
Leaving Passau
New friends from Manchester who we continued to bump into and shared beers
We enjoyed this pottery museum in Obernzell
Cruises are happening!
Swans on the Danube
Huge hydroelectric power station at the dam
I do love a dam!
German- Austrian border
Sand banks again
Picnic time
Look at those ship lips 🙄

So….. Neil thought our accommodation was on the south side of the river and we were cycling on the north side. No problem…. we crossed over on a big bridge and carried on cycling the south side. After a while we checked our accommodation and realised it was on the north side after all. Again, no problem…..we’ll catch a ferry across.

Hammering the tin to call the ferry man
Happy happy on the ferry

But on the north side, and having taken his payment, the ferryman told us there was no cycle path on this side (his clue was our bikes!). He offered to take us back (for the same amount) or catch another ferry bypassing the uncycleable section along the north side. We took option 2.

Ferry number 2
Passing our original ferry
What a journey… such stunning scenery

Late in the day there was no one else cycling and we had a beautiful ride to our pretty hotel right on the Danube.

A pirate ship sailed past as we were eating supper. Random!!

It’s been such a fun day. Always expect the unexpected.
